A Lesson from the Little Hummingbird

Yesterday, we found a tiny, lifeless hummingbird near the garden. While it was a sad moment, it gave us a beautiful opportunity to talk about life, death, and the fascinating journey of these incredible creatures.

We shared with the kids three amazing facts about hummingbirds:

1. Short but Mighty Lives: Hummingbirds typically live 3-5 years, though some can reach up to 10 years! Their tiny hearts beat over 1,200 times per minute, making every moment of their life extraordinary.

2. Unbelievable Travelers: These tiny birds can migrate over 1,500 miles each year, flying across continents to find warmer climates.

3. Always on the Move: Hummingbirds eat every 10-15 minutes and visit up to 2,000 flowers daily to fuel their high-energy lives.

Finding this hummingbird reminded us that life is precious, no matter how small. The kids reflected on the bird’s incredible journey and understood that life and death are part of nature’s cycle. It was a gentle, meaningful way to explore these topics while honoring this remarkable little creature.
